American actress Jamie Lee Curtis has stirred controversy by comparing the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles to the situation in Gaza during a press conference for her new film, The Last Showgirl.

A clip of Curtis’s comments, in which she stated that “the entire Pacific Palisades looks like Gaza,” quickly went viral on social media, prompting significant backlash and criticism.

In her comments, Curtis expressed her deep connection to Los Angeles, stating, “I’m born and raised in the City of Angels, and the entire City of Angels is on fire everywhere. The entire city. The Pacific Palisades is gone.” She added that while her own home remains intact, she resides in a different canyon.

Curtis added: “But the entire Pacific Palisades looks like, unfortunately, Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened.” Her statements have drawn the ire of many, leading to discussions about the sensitivity of such comparisons amidst ongoing global issues.

Some social media users have criticized Curtis for her comparison of the wildfires in Los Angeles to the situation in Gaza, with many highlighting her past support for Israel.

The backlash intensified after the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel in 2023, when Curtis posted a message supporting Israel but mistakenly included a photo of Palestinian children from Gaza. She later deleted the post, but users have since resurfaced it to underscore their critique of her latest remarks on Gaza.

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Curtis described the California wildfires as a “catastrophe” and urged the public to take action to assist those affected by the fires.
