Karachi mayor sets standard burial rates at cemeteries
Karachi City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab Siddiqi announced the implementation of fixed burial rates for cemeteries managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on January 10.
According to a statement from the mayor’s office, the established burial fee is set at Rs14,300, which covers all associated costs, including land, grave excavation, and related services.
To ensure transparency, clear signage displaying the fixed rates has been installed at all KMC-operated cemeteries.
Residents are urged to refrain from paying any amount exceeding the specified fee and to report any instances of overcharging by calling the complaint hotline at 1339.
The mayor stressed that immediate action would be taken against violators.
This initiative aims to simplify the burial process for Karachi residents during difficult times.
Mayor Wahab emphasized that all personnel working at KMC cemeteries must adhere to the new bylaws and fixed rates.
Additionally, a stringent action plan has been developed to combat illegal activities, including the demolition of graves.
The mayor reiterated the local government’s commitment to providing essential municipal services and recognized the financial burden that burial expenses place on families in Karachi.
