Indian politician Prashant Kishor arrested during protest, secures unconditional bail
Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, was arrested during a hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan, where he protested against alleged irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams.
Kishor was taken into custody for conducting an “illegal” fast in violation of a Patna High Court order that prohibited such demonstrations outside designated areas.
After being remanded to judicial custody, Kishor claimed he was released on “unconditional” bail just hours later.
Initially, he refused to accept bail due to what he described as “unreasonable” conditions requiring him to refrain from participating in future protests.
Following his release, Kishor addressed the media, asserting that the local administration lacked proper preparation for his custody and was unable to transport him to Beur Central Jail due to missing paperwork.
His legal team argued that the charges against him were bailable, and they successfully convinced the judge to modify the earlier order, leading to his unconditional bail.
Kishor pledged to continue his protest, emphasizing the need for transparency regarding the BPSC exams and calling for a “white paper” on question paper leaks over the past decade.
He criticized the current government, suggesting that it was not adequately addressing the concerns of civil service aspirants.
