The Reserve Bank of India has announced the list of bank holidays for January 2025, detailing closures across various states in the country.

According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks would remain open on January 4, the first Saturday of the month, in line with the RBI’s policy of keeping banks operational on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays, unless a specific holiday falls on these dates.

Customers should be aware that banks would be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of January 2025, as well as on Sundays, due to public holidays.

Several regional and national holidays would also affect banking operations in different parts of India. On January 6, banks in Chandigarh would close to observe Sri Guru Gobind Singh’s Birthday, a regional holiday impacting operations in the city.

On January 11, banks in Aizawl and Imphal would observe Missionary Day/Imoinu Iratpa, coinciding with the second Saturday of the month, which is a nationwide bank holiday.

January 14 would see multiple states observing holidays for Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and other regional festivities, affecting cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, and Hyderabad in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The following day, January 15, banks in Chennai would be closed to celebrate Thiruvalluvar Day, a significant cultural event in Tamil Nadu.

On January 16, the Uzhavar Thirunal festival would also lead to bank closures in Chennai.

A national holiday on January 23 would honour the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, resulting in bank closures in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata.
