Court won’t announce £190m case verdict against Imran, Bushra tomorrow: sources

PTI lawyers have been informed about the decision
Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi’s reference verdict postponed - Breaking - Aaj News

The accountability court in Islamabad would not announce the £190 million case verdict against jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi tomorrow (Monday), sources said on Sunday.

They added that the accountability court staff has informed PTI lawyers that the new date for the case would be provided by the court in G-11.

On December 18, Accountability Judge Nasir Javed Rana reserved his verdict. It was scheduled to be announced on December 23.

In December 2023, the National Accountability Bureau initiated a corruption reference against Khan and seven others, including his wife, related to the Al-Qadir University case. The allegations state that the former prime minister and his wife secured billions of rupees and hundreds of kanals of land from Bahria Town Ltd in exchange for legalising Rs50 billion, which the UK had identified and returned to Pakistan during the previous PTI administration.

The NAB reference claims that Khan played a crucial role in the unauthorised transfer of state funds into an account intended for land payments to Bahria Town, Karachi. The bureau asserts that the accused have repeatedly failed to provide necessary information, intentionally evading inquiries with various excuses.

Among the individuals implicated in this reference are property magnate Malik Riaz Hussain, his son Ahmed Ali Riaz, Mirza Shehzad Akbar, and Zulfi Bukhari. Rather than cooperating with the investigation and court proceedings, they have fled and have been declared proclaimed offenders.

Farhat Shahzadi, a close associate of Khan’s wife, and Ziaul Mustafa Nasim, a legal adviser for the PTI government’s Assets Recovery Unit, have also been declared proclaimed offenders in the corruption case. As a result, the properties of all six accused individuals have been frozen.

Khan and his spouse were formally indicted in the case back in February, as investigations into the allegations continue.
