Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central information secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram has announced the commencement of a phased civil disobedience movement, starting tomorrow, citing the government’s perceived lack of seriousness in ongoing negotiations.

Speaking to a private television channel, Akram expressed gratitude to National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for his efforts in facilitating talks, but accused the government of failing to make meaningful progress. He asserted that the government’s lack of seriousness necessitates the launch of the civil disobedience campaign.

This statement came before the Prime Minister announced the formation of a negotiation committee. Prior to Akram’s announcement, conflicting statements from PTI leaders regarding the deadline for civil disobedience had emerged.

Latif Khosa stated yesterday that the deadline, set by party chairman Imran Khan, had passed and that the party had activated its overseas chapters regarding remittances.

However, Salman Akram Raja contradicted this, claiming the deadline remained and that there was still time until the end of the week. He indicated that the party’s future course of action would be determined after the deadline.
