A Punjab Elite Force official was martyred and a police constable injured in a firing incident involving wanted criminals in a village near Gujrat district, Punjab.

The deceased official has been identified as Tariq Aziz. The injured constable has been identified Muhammad Amir.

According to Punjab Police spokesperson, a police team responded to reports of firing by wanted criminals. Upon seeing the police, the criminals opened fire, injuring Aziz and Amir. Both were rushed to the hospital, where Aziz succumbed to his injuries.

Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, expressed grief over the martyrdom of Tariq Aziz and ordered a report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Gujranwala.

He also directed the Deputy Police Officer (DPO) Gujrat to form a special team to apprehend the culprits swiftly.

Dr. Anwar paid tribute to Aziz for his sacrifice in the line of duty and assured that the family of the martyred officer will receive the best possible welfare support.

He also ordered the best possible care for Constable Muhammad Amir and ensured all necessary assistance for his speedy recovery. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
