Talks without confidence building measures meaningless: PTI’s Hamid

Demands implementation of SC’s July 12 order, Senate elections
Can civil disobedience or negotiations solve problems between the government and the PTI?| Aaj News

Any negotiations between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the government would be “meaningless” if the latter does not take any confidence-building measures, PTI Senator Hamid Khan said.

“This is only mazaak ka raat nothing else,” he said while appearing on Rubaroo which was aired on Aaj News on Sunday.

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan formed a negotiating committee after the November 26 incident, which according to the PTI killed its 12 supporters.

Khan has warned the government of a civil disobedience movement if their demands for the release of party workers and a judicial commission on May 9 and November 26 were not met.

Earlier this week, PTI MNA Sher Afzal Marwat told Aaj News’ that the government was engaging with the PTI in talks at “some level” to normalise the political situation in the country.

Hamid said that the government should follow the Supreme Court’s July 12 order, allot reserved seats to the PTI, and conduct Senate elections to show signs of any confidence building measures.

“It will show the government is serious and we will believe that there was some base for talks,” he stated.

The PTI senator added that talks are not held without any demands. He slammed the government for not following the apex court’s order on reserved seats.

When asked, he said there would not be a situation that supporters of PTI would take up arms after the November 26 incident where the party believes their 12 supporters were killed.

But Hamid warned that such incidents could have repercussions.

“Our defence forces should think about the country’s security than politics. It is strange that they are trying a retired army man for a court martial by saying that he was involved in politics. Tell us who is not involved in politics. The government is a puppet. Everyone knows who is ruling and doing politics. Situations would not improve until you perform duties under the domain of the Constitution and stay away from politics,” he said.
