For the second time in December, Karachi is at risk of a water crisis following a leak in the 84-inch pipeline that was recently repaired.

The pipeline was damaged during construction for the Red Line project, with repairs taking eight days to complete, leading to significant water shortages in the city, according to reports.

A decision on whether to suspend the water supply for further repairs or to continue distributing water while conducting maintenance has yet to be made.

On December 3, a rupture in the 84-inch pipeline occurred at two locations, disrupting water supply throughout Karachi.

The repair work, which took eight days, left the city without water and resulted in a significant shortage. During this time, approximately 2.5 billion gallons of water could not be delivered, making it difficult for residents to meet their daily needs.

Although the water supply resumed after the repairs were completed, a new leak has since developed, causing water to accumulate in a trench.
