Thaw developing as contact established between govt and PTI
A thaw appears to be developing in the strained relationship between Pakistan’s ruling coalition and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Formal contact has been established between the two sides, paving the way for negotiations. Significantly, PTI has reportedly withdrawn its pre-condition demands for entering into dialogue.
Adding to the positive momentum, Barrister Gohar reiterated his call for a judicial commission to investigate the May 9th incidents in parliament, stating that it’s time to move past the unrest.
Both the government and PTI have formed five-member negotiating committees to facilitate the talks. Government sources have confirmed the easing of tensions.
Sources indicate that PTI is seeking judicial commissions to investigate both the May 9th and November 26th incidents. The government’s negotiating committee will address this demand.
Meanwhile, Salman Akram Raja expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue, referencing the example of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and emphasizing the need to uphold the constitution and the rule of law.
While Sahibzada Hamid Raza remained non-committal, he suggested that some matters are best discussed privately, promising further clarification at an appropriate time. The developments suggest a potential breakthrough in the ongoing political standoff.
