How to register your VPN in Pakistan: A complete guide
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has already registered 20,000 Virtual Private Networks in Pakistan and registration is still open. This guide outlines the process for registering your VPN in Pakistan, as streamlined by the PTA. This applies to organizations and freelancers using VPNs for commercial purposes.
Who can register?
This registration is available for:
- Software houses
- Call centers -Banks
- Embassies
- Freelancers -Members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Any individual using a VPN for commercial purposes
Step 1: Gather Your Information
Before you begin, collect the following information:
- CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) number
- Company registration details
- Taxpayer status
- VPN IP address: This is crucial. If you need a fixed IP address, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to obtain one.
- Proof of employment/project association (for freelancers): This could be a letter from your client, a contract, or an email confirming your project. Clearly state the company or project you’re working for.
Step 2: Access the PTA Website
Go to the official PTA website: www.pta.gov.pk. Look for the VPN registration section on the home page. The option is available at the top of the banner on the right.
Step 3: Complete the Online Form
You will find an online registration form. Carefully and accurately fill in all the required fields using the information you gathered in Step 1. Ensure all details are correct to avoid delays.
Step 4: Submit Your Application
Once you’ve completed the form, review it thoroughly for accuracy, then submit your application.
Step 5: Await Approval
The PTA aims to process applications within 8-10 hours. You will likely receive a confirmation or notification regarding the approval status via email or through the website portal (check for updates).
Specific Instructions for Freelancers:
Freelancers should select the “Freelancer” category when applying. It’s vital to provide compelling evidence of your project or company association to support your application.
