Liverpool vs. Everton premier league clash postponed due to storm Darragh
The Premier League clash between leaders Liverpool and rivals Everton has been postponed due to severe weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh.
High winds and heavy rainfall have impacted western regions of the United Kingdom, leading to significant travel disruptions. Following discussions among both clubs, local police, and Liverpool City Council, Everton announced the postponement for safety reasons.
“While we recognize this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, the safety of fans, staff, and players is of paramount importance,” Everton stated in their announcement.
This match would have marked the final Merseyside derby at Everton’s historic Goodison Park, which has been the club’s home since 1892, before they transition to a new 53,000-capacity stadium next season.
Currently, Liverpool sits at the top of the Premier League, holding a seven-point lead after 14 matches in the 38-game season.
Additionally, matches in the Championship, including fixtures in Plymouth and Cardiff, were also postponed on Friday due to a rare red weather warning issued by the UK’s MET Office for the south-west of England and Wales.
