A businessman was shot dead by assailants on Saturday morning in Shahdara, northeast Delhi. Sunil Jain, 52, an utensil trader, was attacked while returning home on his scooter near the Yamuna Sports Complex.

Police reported that 7 to 8 gunshots were fired, striking Jain with 3 to 4 bullets.

A team from the Farsh Bazar police station responded promptly to the scene after receiving a PCR call. Unfortunately, Jain succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. An investigation is underway to apprehend the attackers and determine the motive behind the shooting.

“The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects,” stated a senior police officer.

Family members of Jain indicated that he had no known enemies and had not received any threats prior to the incident.

In response to the shooting, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government swiftly criticized the central government over the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj labeled Delhi as the “crime capital” of India, while AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal accused Home Minister Amit Shah of creating a “jungle raj” in the capital.

“Amit Shah has ruined Delhi. He has turned it into a jungle raj where people live in fear. The BJP is no longer capable of managing Delhi’s law and order. The people of Delhi must unite and make their voices heard,” Kejriwal asserted.
