Senate Opposition Leader and PTI Senator Shibli Faraz has resigned from the Judicial Commission, following instructions from the party’s founder.

This resignation comes shortly after another PTI leader, Omar Ayub, who serves as the opposition leader in the National Assembly, also stepped down from the commission.

Senator Ali Zafar is set to replace Shibli Faraz as the representative on the Judicial Commission. In his resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the Senate, Faraz cited the 32 FIRs filed against him and ongoing court hearings as reasons for his inability to serve effectively on the commission.

Sources indicate that PTI Chairman Imran Khan approved the resignations of both Faraz and Ayub two days prior and directed the nomination of Barrister Gohar and Senator Ali Zafar as their replacements.

In October 2024, the PTI had decided to formally join the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, agreeing on the nomination of members from both houses of Parliament.
