In a momentous occasion for English cricket, star batsman Joe Root has made history by surpassing Indian great Sachin Tendulkar in the record books, achieving a significant milestone in Test cricket.

Root played a key role in the fourth innings of the Test match against New Zealand, finishing with an impressive unbeaten 23 runs off just 15 balls, which helped secure an eight-wicket victory for England.

At 33 years old, Root has now become the all-time leading run scorer in the fourth innings of Test matches, amassing a total of 1,630 runs. He has eclipsed the previous record held by cricketing icon Tendulkar, who scored 1,625 runs in this category.

Following Root on the list is former England opener Alastair Cook, third with 1,611 runs. He shares this spot with former South African captain Graeme Smith, who also has 1,611 runs. The top five is completed by West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who has scored 1,580 runs in the fourth innings.

The right-handed batter has become a cornerstone of the English batting order, participating in 150 Test matches and amassing an impressive total of 12,777 runs at a strike rate of 57.23 and an average of 50.90.

In the recent match at Hagley Oval, England celebrated a comfortable eight-wicket victory over New Zealand, thanks in part to Jacob Bethell’s debut fifty and Brydon Carse’s outstanding bowling performance.
