Reports are emerging of significant internet service disruptions across Pakistan, including major cities like Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar. However, the IT ministry has claimed all platforms are open to access for all citizens.

Users in Karachi’s North Nazimabad, Gulshan, and Karsaz areas are reporting severely impacted internet speeds. Similar slowdowns are affecting internet users throughout Balochistan, with Quetta particularly affected, where users are demanding a full restoration of service.

In Peshawar, users are experiencing difficulties uploading and downloading voice notes, images, and videos.

The slow internet speeds are causing major problems for those working online. Users also report disruptions to Wi-Fi services in several areas.

Separately, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a statement clarifying that it will not be imposing a ban on Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

According to reports, the government has decided against a VPN ban, citing a lack of legal authority under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016. The Ministry of Law reportedly confirmed this lack of legal basis for such a ban.

Meanwhile, IT minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that several cyber attacks happen in Pakistan daily and the ministry of interior can give instructions to PTA where security is involved.

Khawaja also claimed that Facebook, YouTube and all other digital platforms are open for the public and there is complete freedom of expression.
