Chidimma Adetshina, representing Nigeria, expressed her pride after securing second place in the Miss Universe competition and being named Miss Africa and Oceania.

She made history as the highest-placed Black African woman in the pageant since South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi won in 2019.

Adetshina, who initially competed in Miss South Africa, faced trolling and xenophobic abuse due to her Nigerian heritage.

Following allegations of identity fraud involving her mother, South African authorities threatened to revoke her identity papers, though it was noted that Adetshina was an infant at the time of the alleged fraud.

After these controversies, she participated in the Miss Nigeria competition and emerged victorious, earning her spot in the Miss Universe contest held in Mexico City.

In a recent interview, she mentioned seeking therapy to cope with the trauma from the abuse she endured during the competition.
