Volcanic ashes in Bali disrupts flight operations
Multiple international airlines have canceled flights to and from Bali, Indonesia, following significant eruptions of a nearby volcano that has released ash clouds up to 10 kilometers (32,808 feet) high.
The cancellations on Wednesday were made for safety reasons, affecting airlines such as Jetstar and Qantas, with additional disruptions reported by AirAsia and Virgin.
Bali, a popular tourist destination especially for Australian travelers, has been impacted by the ongoing volcanic activity from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located around 800 kilometers (497 miles) away.
The volcano first erupted on November 3, resulting in at least nine fatalities, and has continued to erupt multiple times since then.
From November 4 to November 12, approximately 80 flights were canceled at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport, with disruptions affecting routes from Singapore, Hong Kong, and various Australian cities.
