Government eyeing ex-CJP Faez Isa as the next chief election commissioner
Approximately two-and-a-half months before the retirement of the current Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, those in power are already moving to select another favored candidate for the important position of CEC.
Business Recorder has reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is seeking recommendations for the next CEC, with the list including the recently retired Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, among other similarly aligned retired officials and former judges.
It is suggested that the ex-Chief Justice is the leading contender for this sought-after role, largely due to his strong rapport with both the influential military establishment and its chosen leaders.
The end of January next year will mark the conclusion of the controversial tenure of the outgoing Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), who is widely seen as the primary architect of the February 8, 2024, general elections fiasco.
This troubling incident involved the covert manipulation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s mandate to install what former Prime Minister Imran Khan referred to as the political “pigmies” led by the Sharifs of Raiwind.
The anticipated appointment of Qazi Faez Isa is expected to provoke a strong reaction within the PTI, leading to protests against this contentious decision.
A senior PTI official, speaking anonymously, made it clear that any effort to appoint “a disgraced, biased, vengeful, and insignificant pigmy” like Qazi Faez Isa would face a fierce political backlash. The architects of this “ugly and reprehensible scheme” would be held accountable, as the party intends to seek retribution for what they consider an unforgivable act.

“Mind you, we’re up and alive and so far, as we’re here the disgrace likes of Qazi Faez Isa, will have to wander from pillar to post to skip street justice by the masses,” he said.
