The smog situation in Punjab remains dire, with Lahore continuing to be ranked among the world’s most polluted cities. This morning, the Air Quality Index in Lahore surged to an alarming level of 714. The intense smog has led to significantly reduced visibility in several cities, prompting the closure of multiple motorways.

The M-2 motorway from Lahore to Kot Sarwar, the Lahore-Sialkot motorway, and the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim are all currently closed due to fog and smog.

A spokesperson for the motorway police emphasized that these closures are being enforced for public safety. Motorists are urged to travel during daylight hours and utilize fog lights while driving.

In response to the ongoing smog crisis, the Lahore High Court has directed the implementation of a work-from-home policy and mandated that all markets close by 8 PM. The court also ordered the confiscation of vehicles that contribute to air pollution.

The Punjab government has begun enforcing the work-from-home initiative, allowing both private and government employees to work remotely.

Furthermore, preparations are underway for artificial rain in Lahore, scheduled for November 11 and 12. Parks and recreational areas across eighteen districts will remain closed for ten days due to the situation.

In addition, the court has imposed a two-week ban on commercial activities on Sundays as part of efforts to combat the smog crisis.
