Court denies pre-arrest bail for restaurant owner in alleged spiked coffee case
A sessions court has denied a pre-arrest bail application from a restaurant owner involved in a case concerning the death of a man who reportedly died after consuming coffee allegedly laced with drugs. The application was presented to Additional District and Sessions Judge Ihsan Ali Malik.
After reviewing the arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the bail request, citing a lack of evidence suggesting ulterior motives or bad faith from the complainant or police that would warrant pre-arrest bail.
The judge noted that the complainant had lost his young son due to the actions of the accused, who is named in the FIR along with two waiters.
Medical evidence supported the claims made, establishing a prima facie connection between the restaurant owner and the alleged crime, which falls under the prohibitory clause of Section 497 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The deceased, Zain Abbasi, 31, had met the restaurant owner on July 31 for a business discussion.
After allegedly being served coffee at the establishment in DHA Phase 1, he became ill upon returning home and later died in a private hospital.
