Excise officials make off with 70 govt vehicles in KP
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Department has launched an investigation into the disappearance of over 70 government vehicles following the departure of several former officials.
Documents obtained by the news agency reveal that a significant number of valuable government vehicles are unaccounted for, with former high-ranking officials possessing multiple vehicles each.
According to the documents, former Director Generals (DGs) and Secretaries are in possession of these vehicles. Former DG Atif Rahman allegedly has three vehicles, former Secretary Excise Islam Zeb four, former DG Saqib Raza three, and Adel Shah, Iqbal Haider (former Secretary), and Zafar Islam (former DG) each possess three or more vehicles.
Furthermore, several other former officials, including Shah Fahad, Rafique Mehmud, Muhammad Tahir, Abdul Wali Mansoor, Arshad Musharraf Marwat, Yousaf Karim, Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, Atta ur Rehman, Zaher Shah, Muhammad Akbar, Naseem Khan, Khalid Mutaiullah, Shah Nawaz, Inam Gandapur, and Fazal Elahi, are each reported to be in possession of one vehicle.
The Excise Department has initiated recovery efforts, and raids are being conducted on the homes of former officials who have failed to return the vehicles. The department has stated that no leniency will be shown, and they are determined to recover all missing vehicles, following the instructions of the Chief Minister.
However, sources within the Excise Department claim that despite recovering six vehicles, high-ranking officials intervened, leading to their return. Two other government vehicles were seized by a special squad and placed in a warehouse. An investigation is underway.
