Sri Lanka dominate Pakistan to clinch Hong Kong Super Sixes title
Sri Lanka secured their second Hong Kong Super Sixes title with a thrilling three-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final held at Mong Kok.
Winning the toss, Sri Lanka elected to field first, and immediately put the pressure on Pakistan, dismissing two early wickets.
Only Mohammad Akhlaq offered any significant resistance for Pakistan, scoring a fighting 48 runs. Captain Faheem Ashraf contributed 13, Aamer Yamin managed 6, while Asif Ali and Hussain Talat both failed to make a significant impact, scoring 0 and 1 respectively.
Pakistan’s innings ended prematurely, with the entire team bowled out for 72 runs in their allotted 6 overs. Dhananjaya Lakshan and Tharindu Rathnayake were the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers, each claiming two wickets.
Chasing a modest 73 runs for victory, Sri Lanka started cautiously.
Despite losing three wickets, they managed to reach the target with one over to spare, securing a hard-fought win. Sandun Weerakkody top-scored for Sri Lanka with 34 runs, while Dhananjaya Lakshan added 2 and captain Lihuru Madhusanka contributed 19. Faheem Ashraf took two wickets for Pakistan in a losing effort.
