At least eight people were killed and four injured when a van plunged into a ravine in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s district Buner on Saturday.

The incident took place in the Chagharzi tehsil at the location known as Pandir Kas Pezau, according to police.

Authorities reported that the van lost its brakes, leading to the tragic plunge into the gorge. Among the deceased were two women and five men while the injured included two children.

The wounded persons were transported to the district headquarters hospital in Daggar.

Last month, two people were killed and 36 others were injured when a Rawalpindi-bound passenger bus fell into a ravine in KP’s Upper Kohistan.

The private company’s passenger bus bound for Rawalpindi from Skardu was carrying 38 passengers.

Accidents are a common occurrence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the northern areas, attributed to the challenging terrain, inadequate road conditions, overloaded vehicles, and limited traffic enforcement. The risk of accidents is heightened by narrow, winding roads, severe weather, and driver fatigue, making these regions particularly hazardous.

In a recent incident in September, three individuals, including two army personnel, lost their lives while one person was injured when a landslide struck a bus on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in the Dasu area of Upper Kohistan district, according to officials.
