PTA says internet ‘back to normal’

PTA spokesperson also revealed plans to enhance connectivity further

Pakistan’s internet speed has returned to normal following the repair of faults in the SMW4 submarine cable, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced.

A PTA spokesperson stated that faults were identified in the SMW4 cable in June and the AAE-1 cable in August. The restoration of both cables has eliminated a shortfall of 1750 Gbps, resulting in the full restoration of internet speed and capacity.

Looking ahead, the PTA spokesperson also revealed plans to enhance connectivity further. Three additional submarine cables are scheduled to be installed within the next two years; two by Trans World International and one integrated into the PTCL cable system.

This expansion aims to significantly improve internet infrastructure and speed across the country.
