Eight individuals, including seven men and one woman, have been arrested for the murder of a Pakistani man in the Pulau Tikus neighborhood, Penang, Malaysia.

The arrests took place during a series of raids early this morning.

Acting Northeast District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake confirmed to Harian Metro that the primary suspect remains at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

“The victim was believed to be working in the shop when one of the suspects entered and attacked him with a screwdriver before fleeing… we are hunting for the main suspect,” he said when contacted on Tuesday.

“We are now hunting for the main suspect, who is still at large,” he said.

The suspects, aged between 22 and 58, were detained in separate locations across the state. Among those arrested are the owner of a fruit shop, several employees, and the proprietor of a nearby motorcycle shop.

According to Superintendent Lee, the incident occurred around 5 pm yesterday when the 48-year-old victim was allegedly attempting to steal alcoholic beverages from the fruit shop.

Lee stated that preliminary investigations indicated the victim was involved in a dispute with the main suspect at a shop when he was stabbed with a screwdriver.

The suspect fled the scene following the incident. Reports suggested that the main suspect was merely passing by the shop when the altercation took place.

The 48-year-old victim died while seeking treatment at a clinic on Jalan Datuk Keramat.

The shop owner confronted him, leading a customer to stab the victim four times with a screwdriver before fleeing the scene.
