The Israeli army has released new footage of the late Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, reportedly recorded just before the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

Filmed on October 6, the video depicts Sinwar walking through an underground tunnel with his wife and children, as they carry supplies to a bunker later uncovered by the IDF.

Sinwar is believed to have orchestrated the assault that resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israeli citizens, triggering a full-scale war between Israel and Hamas.

On Friday, Deputy Gaza Hamas chief Khalil Al-Hayya confirmed that the group’s leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in combat.

Born in a refugee camp in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, Sinwar, 62, was elected as Hamas’ leader in Gaza in 2017.

The controversial leader, who spent half his adult life in Israeli prisons, was the most powerful Hamas leader left alive following the assassination of Haniyeh.

“Sinwar hours before the October 7 massacre: taking down his TV into his tunnel, hiding underneath his civilians, and preparing to watch his terrorists murder, kidnap, and rape,” IDF Spokesperson Nadav Shoshani said while sharing the footage.

The IDF spokesperson criticised the late Hamas leader and his wife for their apparent wealth while Gaza residents face food shortages.

Adraee shared a screenshot of Sinwar’s wife holding a Birkin bag, questioning, “Did Sinwar’s wife enter the tunnel with him on October 6 carrying a Birkin bag estimated to cost about $32,000?!”

Sinwar, 61, who took over leadership of Hamas from Ismail Haniyeh in July, was a key target for Israel. He was killed in an encounter with Israeli soldiers in Rafah on October 17.

Last week, the IDF released footage capturing Sinwar’s final moments. The drone video showed him slumped in a chair, dust-covered and with a bleeding right hand. In a desperate act, he was seen throwing a stick at the hovering drone.
