The former One Direction band member Liam Payne has tragically passed away at the age of 31.

Authorities in Buenos Aires, Argentina, reported that Payne fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in the Palermo neighborhood on Wednesday.

He suffered severe injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, Pablo Policicchio, stated that police were called to the hotel following reports of an “aggressive man” who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

According to Policicchio, Payne “had thrown himself from the balcony of his room.”

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.

Local media indicated that Payne was in Buenos Aires to attend a concert by his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan.

Just hours before his death, Payne shared a video on Snapchat, expressing his enjoyment of the day, mentioning horse riding and polo, and looking forward to returning home to his dog.

“I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me,” American singer Charlie Puth said on Instagram. “He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I cannot believe he is gone.”
