Kokikhel tribe ends sit-in after talks with Gandapur

The tribe canceled a planned march towards Tirah

The KokiKhel tribe of Khyber District has ended its 75-day sit-in and called off a planned march following a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

The meeting, which included tribal elders, MNA Iqbal Afridi, MPAs Suhail Afridi and Abdul Ghani Afridi, the Peshawar Commissioner, and the Khyber Deputy Commissioner, focused on the return of displaced KokiKhel families to their homes.

Participants agreed to immediately begin the registration process for the return of those whose areas have been cleared. A further meeting next week with relevant authorities will establish a timeline and action plan for the return of remaining displaced persons.

Based on assurances from the Chief Minister, the tribe canceled a planned march towards Tirah and ended its prolonged protest on the Torkham highway. The tribal elders expressed complete confidence in the Chief Minister’s ability to resolve the issue peacefully, praising his leadership in resolving the October 11th and Bannu incidents.

Tribal elders credited the Chief Minister’s wisdom and leadership for preventing bloodshed, expressing full confidence in his ability to resolve their issue, mirroring his successful handling of previous situations.

Chief Minister Gandapur expressed gratitude for the tribe’s trust and pledged his commitment to fulfilling their expectations. He announced a meeting next week with stakeholders to finalize the plan for the displaced persons’ resettlement.

He acknowledged the tribal people’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing their rightful return and resettlement as a top priority. He instructed relevant officials to begin procuring necessary supplies and materials for their return and resettlement.
