People meeting PTM to have CNIC’s blocked: Naqvi

Says large gathering does not constitute jirga

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has declared that Pakistan will not tolerate any parallel judicial system and will block the national identity cards of individuals who meet with the banned Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM).

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Naqvi stated that the PTM had insulted state institutions and the police. While expressing no objection to traditional Jirgas, he emphasized that the establishment of parallel courts would not be permitted.

Naqvi reiterated that the government had banned the PTM, stating that bringing thousands of people together does not constitute a legitimate Jirga.

He clarified that the government is willing to engage with those advocating for rights, but those who meet with the PTM will face ID card blocking. He stressed that the government will not allow anyone to take up arms.

The Minister noted that some political parties had also associated with the PTM, stating that sedition will not be tolerated and that those who insult the state or act against it will face consequences.

Naqvi further revealed that a documentary about the PTM was produced by an Indian company and that the ban on the PTM was imposed by the government.

He warned of a strong crackdown on PTM facilitators, emphasizing that while meetings are not the issue, support for the group is unacceptable.
