Punjab on high alert as PDMA issues warning for rain

The Director-General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, announced on Sunday that all relevant departments in Punjab are on high alert.

This follows instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, as the PDMA has issued a new rain alert. In a statement made on a private news channel, Kathia emphasized that they are fully equipped to manage any potential emergencies, with rain predicted until October 8.

“Our control rooms are monitoring the situation 24/7 and rescue personnel with machinery are on standby,” he added.

Kathia stated that the water levels in all rivers and canals are normal. He also mentioned that measures have been implemented to ensure proper drainage in low-lying areas.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, rain is anticipated in in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda and Nowshera from 05th to 08th October. While, rain-wind in Mardan, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan from 5 to 7 October with occasional gaps.

“Rain-wind (with isolated hailstorm) are expected in Islamabad,Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Faisalabad during 5, 7 and 8 October with occasional gaps,” PMD reported.

Rain-wind are expected in Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 5 to 8 October.

Balochistan is also likely to recieve rainfall in Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Lasbella, Panjgur and Awaran on October 7.

However, hot and dry weather is expected in Sindh.
