Every baby born in Dubai to get special passport

It will register children of compulsory school age and monitor their enrollment in schools

A learner’s passport will now be issued to every newborn in Dubai to track their educational journey and assist parents in making informed decisions regarding their children’s education, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) announced on Wednesday during the unveiling of the ‘Education Strategy 2033.’

This initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Dubai Health Authority, according to a report in the Khaleej Times.

KHDA Director-General Aisha Miran stated, “The Learning Passport aims to ensure every child’s right to education. It will register children of compulsory school age and monitor their enrollment in schools, making certain that no child is deprived of an education. The system will also identify children of mandatory school age who have not yet enrolled, prompting immediate actions to secure their education.”

Miran further elaborated, “The Learning Passport is focused on guaranteeing every child’s right to education; we want to account for all children in Dubai to ensure they are part of the educational system.”

“When a child is born, they will be entered into the system, allowing us to clearly understand the educational stages available and provide information about local nurseries,” she added.

Miran pointed out that the enrollment rate of Emirati children in early childhood centers is below the global average, which negatively impacts their development and academic success. “Research shows that 90 percent of a child’s brain develops from birth to age five, making this a crucial growth period that influences their future academic performance,” she emphasized.

Additionally, the Learning Passport aims to offer parents comprehensive information about available educational options, enabling them to make informed choices regarding their children’s education.
