The United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon has confirmed that its troops will maintain their positions in the south, despite a request from Israel for relocation.

On September 30, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) of their intention to conduct limited ground incursions into Lebanese territory and requested the peacekeepers to move from specific sites.

In response, UNIFIL stated, “Peacekeepers remain in all positions and the UN flag continues to fly.”

They emphasized that they are continually adjusting their operations and have contingency plans in place if necessary.

The situation has escalated following Israel’s increased military actions against Hezbollah, which have resulted in over 1,110 casualties and displaced hundreds of thousands in Lebanon, a nation already facing a severe economic crisis.
