The National Highways Authority (NHA) has announced a significant increase in toll taxes on highways and motorways, set to take effect from October 1, 2024.

This move aims to generate a revenue target of Rs102 billion by the end of the 2024-25 fiscal year, up from Rs 64 billion collected in 2023-24.

The toll hikes will impact several major routes, including the Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad-Multan Motorway (M4), Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5), D I Khan-Hakla Motorway (M14), and the Mansehra Expressway.

Under the new toll structure, motorists traveling on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M1) will see their fees rise from Rs350 to Rs460. For wagons, the toll will increase from Rs550 to Rs720, while buses will now be charged Rs1,300, up from Rs1,000. Truck tolls will jump from Rs1,500 to Rs1,950.

On national highways, the toll for cars will go from Rs40 to Rs50, with wagons seeing an increase to Rs90 and buses facing a new charge of Rs170, up from Rs130. Two and three-axle trucks will be taxed Rs210, while articulated trucks will see their fees rise to Rs460 from Rs350.

Additionally, tolls will be raised at key locations such as the Kohat Tunnel (N55), Islamabad-Murree-Kohala Highway (N75), and Mianwali Toll Plaza (N135), resulting in higher charges for all commuters.
