Hamas condemns Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon as ‘war crimes’
Hamas has condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, which have resulted in at least 182 deaths, labelling the attacks as “barbaric aggression and a war crime”, Al Jazeera reported.
In a statement, the group expressed its solidarity with Hezbollah and the Lebanese people.
Jamal Ghosn, a political commentator based in Beirut, described the situation in Lebanon as “panicky.” He noted the chaos caused by the rapid evacuation of people in response to the intense air raids.
“We’re talking about 400 airstrikes within just a few hours, and we anticipate more to come, potentially affecting various regions of Lebanon,” Ghosn stated.
He added that the scale of firepower used in such attacks is likely unprecedented in Israel’s military campaigns against Lebanon.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, also condemned Israel’s extensive airstrikes in residential areas of southern Lebanon.
Kanaani criticised the silence and backing of the US and certain Western nations towards what he termed the “Zionist regime.”
He warned that the continuation of Israel’s actions against Palestinians and its efforts to escalate conflict throughout the region could lead to severe consequences. His statements were shared on the ministry’s Telegram channel, highlighting Iran’s concerns over the potential for wider regional instability.
