PML-N leader Khurram Dastgir has alleged that the ‘violence-inciting language’ of PTI leaders would be a final nail in the former ruling party’s coffin.

“I think they [PTI] should be allowed to stage rally so that their violence-inciting language will lead them to the ‘gallows’ they have not been,” he said while appearing on Rubaroo which was aired on Aaj News on Friday.

Imran Khan’s party is all set to hold a rally in Punjab on Saturday (tomorrow). He has warned of protests it was not allowed to have public gatherings.

It would be the party’s second rally after September 8 in Sangjani where leaders warned of protests if the former prime minister was not released.

According to Dastgir, the PTI has not seen the “martial law” and claimed that the Punjab police raided Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s daughter’s house during the PTI tenure. He clarified that there was nowhere written in the Constitution that freedom of expression would be abused to incite people.

PTI lawmaker Shoaib Shaheen and PPP leader Maula Bux Chandio were the other two guests on the show.

In response to a query about the JUI-F’s objection to the constitutional amendment, Dastgir said that the development shows that there “is democracy” in the country.

While recalling Imran Khan’s tenure, he claimed that there was a “martial stick” in Parliament which they used to see in the corridor. “I saw how bills were pushed when needed. We have seen it many times. PTI has not seen and if seen martial stick supporting them,” he said and added that blocking of legislation indicates that political parties were interplaying.

When asked about Leader of Opposition in NA Omar Ayub’s statement related to ‘martial law’, Shaheen said that the way the constitutional amendment was being brought was “worse than dictatorship and a martial law”. He added that the tweaks were aimed at curtailing fundamental rights.

He gave the credit to JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for blocking the bill and lamented that the government tried to “stifle democracy.”

In the interview, Dastgir rejected the impression that the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Ordinance was an alternative to constitutional amendments.

“Through the ordinance, Parliament made an effort to regulate SC matters which is kind of divided,” he said and claimed that the judiciary has not brought reforms to improve the legal system over the years.

But the PTI leader did not agree with the PML-N leader, saying that if reforms were needed they should have been done in the lower judiciary where over 2.2 cases were pending. Shaheen went on to add that the PPP strengthened the Supreme Court, which he described as the constitutional court, under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

He alleged that the ruling coalition was dishonest in bringing the SC Practice and Procedure Ordinance.
