Indian music producer Hirdesh Singh, professionally known as Yo Yo Honey Singh, has revealed that he got to understand the Islamic teachings by knowledge of Sufi saints followed by religious scholars.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Singh shared his experience and how he relocated to Mohali in Punjab where he became famous in 2007. Around this time, he happened to encounter several Sufi saints and scholars who initiated him into the essentialities of Islam.

“My initial curiosity grew into a deep interest as I sought answers to numerous questions I had about the religion,” Singh said and added that he learned about Prophet Moses, Prophet Jesus, and Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Them).

The singer highlighted how closely he listened and kept pressing them for answers. But Singh did reveal that after becoming famous and rich in the 2012 era, he lost his way with faith — falling for “negative influences” instead.

“That was the biggest mistake of my life,” Singh said. In 2018, he fought with a life-threatening illness and it was “when his belief in God became very strong.”
