Iranian athlete Sadiq Beit Siya has been disqualified and stripped of his gold medal in the F41 javelin throw event at the ongoing Paralympics in Paris.

The disqualification occurred after Beit Siya displayed a controversial flag during his celebration. Although he set a new Paralympic record with a throw of 47.64 meters, the gold medal has been awarded to Indian athlete Nadeep Singh, who initially finished second with a throw of 47.32 meters.

Iraqi competitor Nkhilawi Wildan secured the bronze with a throw of 40.46 meters.

Beit Siya’s disqualification has caused significant disappointment among Iranian sports fans and negatively affected Iran’s position on the medal table, where the gold would have placed them ahead of India.

The Head of Iran’s Paralympic Association, Ali Asghar Hadizadeh, remarked that Beit Siya, motivated by his religious beliefs and devotion to Hazrat Ummul Banin, displayed a flag from his bag without informing his coach or any officials beforehand.

“At the end of the match after he was declared champion he took a flag out of his sports bag without the knowledge of the coach and supervisor, which led to him being shown a second yellow card,” Hadizadeh said.

“Beit Sayah’s inadvertent mistake has robbed them and the Iranian team of the gold medal, which has made us all very sad,” he said.
