Lahore sessions court reserves decision on Orya Maqbool Jan’s bail in cybercrime case
The Lahore sessions court has reserved its decision on the bail application of prominent analyst and columnist Orya Maqbool Jan, who was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in connection with a cybercrime case.
During the hearing, presided over by Judge Rafaqat Ali Qamar, Jan’s attorney, Mian Ali Ashfaq, argued that the FIA’s case relies solely on assumptions, asserting that there is no evidence or documentation to substantiate the allegations, and that no recovery is expected from Jan.
Ashfaq requested the court to grant Jan’s bail, while the FIA opposed the application.
After considering the arguments from both parties, the court reserved its decision. On August 31, the Lahore sessions court had previously issued a notice to the FIA concerning Jan’s bail application and asked for the case records.

The day prior, a local court had placed Jan on a 14-day judicial remand. On August 26, the Lahore district court granted an additional 4-day physical remand to the FIA, following an earlier approval of a similar remand on August 22.
Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid instructed that the investigating officer submit a report to the court at the next hearing. Jan was taken into custody late on the night of August 21 in Lahore.
