Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted additional rainfall in various cities as new spell of monsoon rains approaches the country.

There are warnings of landslides in the northern regions and the risk of flooding in central plains and urban areas.

The winds from the Bay of Bengal are expected to bring thunderstorms and rain to the upper regions today and tomorrow.

According to the PMD, most areas of the country will experience hot and dry weather; however, there is a likelihood of strong winds and thunderstorms in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, northeastern Balochistan, interior Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in some areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Pothohar region during the evening and night.

In Islamabad and surrounding areas, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with a chance of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.

New Advisory by PMDA

The PMD has issued a new advisory warning of potential landslides in hilly areas.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), heavy rainfall is expected in Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, South and North Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan. There are also risks of landslides in the upper districts and flooding in central plains and urban areas.

The PDMA has alerted all district administrations in light of the weather conditions and advised them to ensure the availability of both small and large machinery for emergency response.

The PMD has issued the 10th alert for cyclones that can take place.

Tropical storm Sinha has moved 370 kilometers away from Gwadar, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue its tenth alert regarding the tropical cyclone.

Rainfall in Different Provinces

In most districts of Punjab, warm and dry weather is expected; however, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in some areas of the Pothohar region during the evening or night.

According to the PMD, several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to see rain today and tomorrow due to moist winds entering the upper regions from the Bay of Bengal. Rain is expected in areas including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, South and North Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.

Monsoon rains have continued in Balochistan with the forecast of strong winds and thunderstorms in many areas today. Heavy rainfall is expected in Zhob, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Musakhel, Barkhan, Mastung, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Nasirabad, Sibi, Kohlu, Bolan, Panjgur, and Makran. Additionally, following the filling of Hub Dam, excess water is still being released from the spillway.

Most districts in Sindh are expected to experience warm and dry weather; however, there may be rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, and surrounding areas.

In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather is predicted to be partly cloudy, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected in some areas.
