Here’s how expensive Karachi’s electricity became in the last year

The sole power provider to Karachi, K-Electric has continued to increase electricity prices for the citizens of Karachi, with a total increase of 15.90 PKR per unit up to June 30 of the last fiscal year.

From July 2023 to June 2024, K-Electric raised the fuel surcharge adjustment for Karachi residents by Rs15.90 per unit, while only reducing it by Rs5.45 in the same category.

In July 2023, electricity prices rose by Rs1.71, followed by increases of 0.61 PKR in August, Rs1.39 in September, Rs4.49 in October, Rs1.77 in November, Rs0.79 in December, and Rs2.97 in January 2024.

In February, the electricity price was reduced by Rs1.81 per unit, in March by Rs1.97 per unit, and in April by Rs1.67 per unit.

Similarly, in May, the price increased by Rs1.59 per unit, and in June by Rs0.58 per unit.

For July, a request has been made to raise the price by Rs3.09 per unit, and NEPRA has reserved its decision on this matter.
