Sher Afzal briefly arrested by police in Islamabad
Police in Islamabad briefly detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat, before releasing him after he assured authorities he would not incite unrest.
A heavy police contingent apprehended Marwat and took him to Golra Police Station. The arrest was confirmed by Marwat’s official Twitter account.
A police spokesperson later confirmed Marwat’s release, stating he was let go after promising not to disrupt public order.
Earlier today, PTI workers had gathered in Tarnol, Islamabad, to attend a planned rally. Reports indicated that individuals were also being detained at Express Chowk.
It is worth noting that PTI had postponed its planned rally in Islamabad today. However, PTI workers began gathering at Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore, intending to travel to Islamabad. Police deployed at Thokar to prevent the workers from reaching the capital, arresting two women, including the general secretary of the women’s wing in Lahore, and a driver.
In anticipation of the potential rally, authorities and police placed containers on the main GT Road, causing significant inconvenience for citizens. The venue for the planned rally was also dug up.
