Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has lauded javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem’s efforts for securing Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal in a singles event and setting up a new Olympic record.

Nadeem called on the CJCSC Gen Mirza at Joint Staff Headquarters, Rawalpindi on Tuesday, the military’s media wing said.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said that Gen Mirza also appreciated the “diligence and devotion” of Nadeem in achieving a milestone in Pakistan’s sports history and wished him the very best for his future endeavours.

Nadeem made history at the 2024 Paris Games, shattering the javelin throw Olympic record with a stunning throw of 92.97 metres. This momentous achievement has filled the hearts of all Pakistanis with immense pride.

It is a major feat not just for Nadeem, but for the South Asian nation which won their last Olympic medal 32 years ago.

Before Nadeem’s remarkable victory, Pakistan had never won an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
