Former senator Muhammad Ali Durrani has claimed that the incumbent government feared that it would lose its power if there was any reconciliation with the opposition.

In an interview with News Insight with Amir Zia on Monday, he accused the incumbent government of creating a confrontational situation between the institutions and the people.

He warned the ruling party of such attempts, saying that it would not be favourable for it. “The Form 47 will be the government’s meltdown and its end,” Durrani said.

The former senator reiterated that “If accountability process starts, it will be an example for those who are in power today and a benefit for Imran Khan.”

When asked about the arrest of former spymaster Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, he said that it was an internal matter of the army and inquiries against military officials have been taken in the past.

He welcomed the development and added that the army takes action against its officers after a complete inquiry. But he criticised the ministers’ statement after the development, accusing them of linking it with a political activity.

“This is very concerning and a negative approach that the government responsible persons have opted,” Durrani said and claimed that the government also did it during the army chief’s appointment.

“This is a national mandate for those who process it. If they make it a joke and talk about it on TV programmes is sorrowful. This is a bigger case then the cipher. It should be checked,” he said.

Durrani was of the view that there was nothing like the government and the army were on “one page” rather both are “one”. He advised the prime minister to read the Constitution and law.
