First case of Congo virus confirmed in Karachi
A case of Congo virus has been confirmed in Karachi, marking the first such case in the city this year.
The patient, a 32-year-old man, was admitted to Jinnah Hospital after experiencing high fever and diarrhea.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the patient tested positive for Congo virus. He has been transferred to the hospital’s ICU.
Congo virus is commonly reported during the Eid al-Adha festival, when there is a large influx of animals. The virus is transmitted from animals to humans and can spread from person to person.
It is worth noting that a 42-year-old resident of East District in Karachi was also diagnosed with Congo virus in November 2023.
Health authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, including avoiding contact with animals, particularly during the Eid al-Adha season.
