The drama of the 2024 Olympics continued off the gymnastics floor, as American gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her bronze medal in the floor exercise due to a technicality.

Chiles’ coach Cecile Landi filed an appeal to contest the athlete’s original score of 13.666, believing the judges had failed to properly credit her for a split leap worth 0.1 additional points, according to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). But the CAS ruled that Landi’s appeal was filed four seconds after the one-minute allowable time limit, rendering it invalid.

As a result, Chiles’ score has been reverted to the original 13.666, placing her behind Romania’s Ana Barbosu, who scored 13.700 in the final. The Federation of International Gymnastics has been directed to adjust the final standings, with Barbosu now set to receive the bronze medal.

The International Olympic Committee confirmed that it would reallocate the bronze medal to Barbosu, though the details of the reallocation ceremony are still being finalised.
