Weather turns pleasant after rain in Karachi and Lahore

Flooding has been reported in low-lying areas

Karachi, Lahore, and other parts of Pakistan experienced heavy rainfall overnight and early morning, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat but also causing flooding in low-lying areas.

Karachi saw intermittent showers, ranging from light drizzle to heavy downpours, across various areas including MA Jinnah Road, Guru Mandir, Golimar, Old City, and Nazimabad. The rain brought a welcome respite from the city’s usual heat and humidity.

Similarly, Rawalpindi, Taxila, and surrounding areas received heavy rainfall, leading to power outages in several localities. Islamabad also experienced light showers, improving the weather conditions. Other areas that received rainfall include Azad Kashmir, Peshawar, Malakand, and Mansehra.

In Lahore, heavy rain and cool winds early morning brought a pleasant change in the weather. However, the downpour also caused flooding in low-lying areas. Several areas of the provincial capital, including Lakshmi Chowk, Abbot Road, Shimla Hill, Mall Road, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Qurtuba Chowk, Choburji, Islam Pura, Band Road, Gulshan Ravi, Samanabad, Mughal Pura, Taj Pura, Farooqabad, and Chowk Nakhoda, witnessed heavy rainfall, resulting in waterlogging in low-lying areas. Power outages were reported in several areas due to the rain.

The heavy rainfall also led to flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with power outages reported in several localities.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain in various parts of the country over the next 24 hours.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to all Deputy Commissioners across Punjab, including Lahore, to remain vigilant in light of the heavy rainfall. The PDMA spokesperson has urged relevant departments to remain on high alert to deal with any emergency situation. A high alert has been issued for urban flooding, and authorities have been instructed to ensure swift drainage of water from low-lying areas.
