The federal government issued a special postage stamp with the theme ‘Resolve for Stability’ on Saturday on the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, which would be celebrated on August 14.

The postage stamp features an image of Pakistan’s Olympian Arshad Nadeem, paying tribute to his achievements. The 27-year-old athlete from a village near Mian Chunnuset set a new Olympic record of 92.97 metres in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics and won the gold medal, serving as an inspiration for the younger generation.

Nadeem made the whole nation proud after winning the gold medal—it was the country’s first individual gold medal at the event and the first after 40 years.

All of Pakistan’s previous three gold medals came in field hockey, with their team winning gold in 1960, 1968 and 1984.

“The title ‘Resolve for Stability’ on the postage stamp represents the government’s unwavering commitment to the country’s progress and stability,” said a statement. The inclusion of the image of the Minar-e-Pakistan also highlights the symbolic significance of Pakistan’s struggle for independence.

The postage stamp issued by the Government of Pakistan on the occasion of Independence Day “will make the younger generations aware of the country’s struggle for independence, the sacrifices made, and the government’s continued efforts” for stability.

Prior to this, President Asif Ali Zardari announced that he would confer Hilal-i-Imtiaz on the national icon Arshad Nadeem for his record-setting performance in the Paris Olympics 2024, in the category of javelin throwing.

“The president will confer the civil award upon Arshad Nadeem during a special ceremony to be held in recognition of his prominent performance in sports. The President will confer the civil award under Article 259 (2) of the Constitution,” the President Secretariat’s press wing said in a press release on Saturday.

Under the constitutional provision, the president can confer Pakistani citizens with civil awards in recognition of their meritorious services in different fields of life. Upon the president’s directive, a letter had been dispatched by the Aiwan-e-Sadr to the Cabinet Division.
