One of the suspects in the “honey trap case” involving playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar has accused the latter and her fellow accomplices, Hassan Shah, of blackmailing her.

Amna Urooj said this while appearing in the anti-terrorism court in Lahore which extended her physical remand by two days. She told the judge that Shah was involved in the crime and claimed that she was being framed in the matter.

“I did not take any money. Hassan Shah has also circulated my video. Hassan Shah and Khalilur Rehman have blackmailed me,” she said. To this, Qamar’s lawyer claimed that his client was a pious man.

The ATC judge remarked, “A pious man would usually be praying Tahajjud (pre-dawn prayer) at 4am, so what kind of pious man is this?”

Qamar, known for writing famous dramas in Pakistan, was kidnapped by over a dozen people in the city, according to the first information report registered at the Sunder Police Station.

He was kidnapped in the wee hours of July 16 from Lahore’s Bahria Town. A group of seven men barged into a house where he was “invited as a guest by a woman”. He added that the armed men tortured him. The woman had called the writer to meet her to produce a drama.

The FIR invoked sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 395 (punishment for dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Qamar claimed that he was robbed at gunpoint. The kidnappers took away his mobile phone worth around Rs150,000, worth Rs100,000 wrist watch and more than Rs271,000 of cash.

Earlier in the day, media reported that the Organized Crime Unit of Lahore Police arrested the last two suspects in the honey trap case. The arrested individuals include the alleged mastermind, Hassan Shah, and his accomplice, Muhammad Rafiq.

In his confessional statement, Rafiq said that Qamar did not go to Urooj’s house for a casting call, as previously claimed. “Instead, Khalilur Rehman Qamar went to Amna Ilyas’s house with malicious intent,” Shah said.
