Coaching centre flooded in Delhi, three students killed

The students were all in their 20s and were IAS aspirants

A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar area on Saturday, claiming the lives of three civil service aspirants. The basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle, a prominent coaching center, became flooded following heavy rainfall, trapping several students.

The three victims, identified as Tania Soni (25), Shreya Yadav (25), and Nevin Dalwin (28), were initially reported missing after the basement flooded.

Rescue teams from the Delhi Police, fire department, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a search operation, eventually recovering their bodies.

According to preliminary investigations, the basement housed a library where students were present when the flooding occurred.

The rapid rise of water levels trapped several individuals, with furniture obstructing rescue efforts. Ropes were used to evacuate those trapped, but unfortunately, the three students lost their lives.

Following the incident, students protested the deaths, raising slogans against the authorities. Delhi Minister Atishi has directed the Chief Secretary to initiate an inquiry and submit a report within 24 hours.

A criminal case has been registered, and two individuals have been detained for questioning. Police are investigating the cause of the flooding and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Forensic teams are collecting evidence to determine the extent of negligence, if any, that contributed to the tragedy.
